Tangible Personal Property
Tangible personal property includes machinery and equipment, tools, furniture, fixtures,
supplies, signs, and leasehold equipment capable of being used in large and small
businesses. Although your own household goods and effects are exempt, appliances and
furniture in any rental dwellings you may own are taxable.
Mobile homes without proper decals are considered tangible personal property as well as any
attachments to mobile homes such as screened porches, storage areas, and sheds where
the owner of these items is not the owner of the land.
A Tangible Personal Property return should be filed with the Property Appraiser's Office
between January 1st and April 1st. Late filing penalties begin at 5% per month for every
month the return is late, to a maximum of 25%. Extensions may be granted up to May 15th.
The extension requests must be received by April 1, and must state the name, address,
parcel number, and reason for the request.
