Our office is open to the public from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

The goal of the Chattooga County Assessors Office is to provide the people of Chattooga County with a web site that is easy to use. You can search our site for a wealth of information on any property in Chattooga County.

The information contained herein reflects the values established in the "most current published" tax digest. *Please note that the Assessors Office establishes values only. The Chattooga County Tax Commissioner should be contacted with tax bill related questions.

Chattooga County voters approved two additional exemptions last year.

HB877 allows a freeze that freezes your taxable value for the homestead house and up to five acres for county purposes. This means the value on which you are taxed on your homestead for county purposes will remain the same unless improvements are made to that property. Accessory buildings and structures and land values over the five-acre limit can increase with inflation. Tax rates can still change to fund budgets, but the frozen portion of value used with the tax rate to calculate tax bills cannot go up or down. This exemption requires an application.

HB581 allows a floating homestead exemption which freezes certain values but can move up or down with inflation according to the Consumer Price Index. Tax rates can still change to fund budgets, and the frozen portion of value used with the tax rate to calculate tax bills can go up or down with inflation but only by the CPI percentage from the prior year. This exemption requires no application; if you currently have any homestead exemption in Chattooga County, this freeze will automatically apply.

* Since two similar freezes were passed for our county in the same year, a determination will need to be made on which exemption is best for each homeowner for the county tax portion, but this determination can only be made if the homeowner has applied for the freeze under HB877.

Our office hours are from 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday - Friday except for holidays.

Best regards,

Chattooga County Board of Assessors
