Attention – NEW Property Owners in Newberry County Have you completed your application? Special Assessment as Legal Residence - 4% assessment ratio  - The Assessor’s office wants to be certain that new property owners that occupy their home as their primary residence file early for the special assessment as legal residence.  By not filing timely, the new owner could experience a short-term increase mortgage payments and an overstated real property tax bill this Fall. Special Valuation as Agricultural Real Property – For new property owners that own qualifying tracts of land that is used to commercially grow crops or timber, there is a special valuation as agricultural real property that the property could be eligible for.  It is also important that these applications are received early to ensure the real property tax bill is generated on its appropriate value this Fall.
