2023 assessment notices were mailed out May 16, 2023, and the last day to file an appeal is June 30, 2023.

It is not a tax bill. The notices are sent out to inform the property owner the value of their property.

If a taxpayer doesn’t agree with the fair market value, they may file an appeal by:
  • Sending a written letter to the board of assessors which must include a reason for the appeal, a value, and which option you would like to take.
  • An email can be sent to taxassessor@lamarcountyga.com which must include a reason for the appeal, a value, and which option you would like to take.
  • Can come into the office.

    Reasons for Appeal
An appeal can be made based on any of the following reasons:
  • Denial of Homestead / Special Use Exemption
  • Uniformity
  • Value

If a property owner files an appeal, one of the following options must be selected:
  • County Board of Equalization (value, uniformity, denial of exemption, or taxability).
  • Arbitration (value)
  • County Hearing Officer (value or uniformity, on non-homestead real property or wireless personal property valued, in excess of $500,000)

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office at 770-358-5161.

The Estimated taxes at the bottom of the notice is based on the 2022 mill rate, which is set every year by the governing authority: The Board of Commissioners, The Board of Education and The State of Georgia. Your actual tax bill will be mailed later in the year by the Tax Commissioner’s office. This estimate may not include all eligible exemptions.
