Absentee & Advance Voting

If you cannot be at your polling location between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm on the day of an election you may be eligible to cast an absentee ballot.

Requirements
To vote absentee you must meet at least one of the following requirements.

  • You will be out of your precinct between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm on Election Day.
  • You are an election official.
  • You have a physical disability.
  • You are over 75 years of age.
  • You are a constant caregiver to someone who is physically disabled.
  • Election Day falls on a religious holiday which you observe.
  • You are a public servant required to be on duty in your precinct from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on Election Day.
  • You are out of your precinct because you are currently on active duty with the military.
  • You are a permanent overseas citizen. (You will receive only the Federal Offices: President, Vice President, U.S. Senator, and U.S. Congressman.)

 

How to Vote Absentee
If you meet any of the above requirements there are two ways in which you may vote absentee: by mail, or in person.

1) In Person
1. Make sure you meet at least one of the requirements listed above to vote absentee.
2. Arrive at Coffee Board of Elections Main Office
ready to vote:

2) By Mail
1. Print the application by clicking here.
2. Fill out the application completely. Be sure you fill out all appropriate fields and sign the application.
3. Fax the application to the Board of Elections and Registration Office at:

4. Your application will be reviewed and upon approval an absentee ballot will be mailed to your address.
5. When you have completed the ballot, it may either be delivered in person or mailed to:

  • You may hand deliver your own ballot to the Board of Elections Office by 5:00 pm, Monday before the election.
  • Mailed ballots must be at the Douglas Post Office by 5:00 pm on Election Day.
  • Family members may hand deliver a ballot for a disabled person until 7PM on Election Night
  • Unless a voter is disabled, each individual must mail or deliver his or her own ballot. A ballot may not be handled by anyone other than the individual to whom it was issued (not even spouses).

Advance Voting

During the period of Advance Voting you can vote Absentee without having to meet any of the requirements listed above. Advance Voting is Absentee Voting with no reason required.

If you are 75 years old or older, if you are disabled, or if you will be out of your precinct on Election Day, you do not have to wait for the week of Advance Voting. Please see the information above about Absentee Voting.

ID Requirements

ONE form of proper identification is required to vote.
If you have no ID or have lost your ID you can fill out a "
Statement in Place of ID" form.



Acceptable Forms of ID
Only one form of ID from the list below must be presented when you go to vote in order to receive a ballot.

  • A valid Georgia driver's license.
  • A valid identification card issued by a branch, department, agency or entity of the State of Georgia, any other state, or the United States, authorized by law to issue personal identification.
  • A valid United States passport.
  • A valid employee identification card containing a photograph, and issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the United States Government, this state, or any county, municipality, board, authority, or other entity of this state.
  • A valid employee identification card containing a photograph of the elector and issued by any employer of the elector in the ordinary course of such employers business.
  • A valid student identification card containing a photograph of the elector from any public or private college, university, or postgraduate technical or professional school located within the State of Georgia.
  • A valid Georgia license to carry a pistol or revolver.
  • A valid pilot's license issued by the Federal Aviation Administration or other authorized agency of the United States.
  • A valid United States military identification card.
  • A certified copy of the elector's birth certificate.
  • A valid social security card.
  • Certified naturalization documentation.
  • A certified copy of court records showing adoption, name or sex change.
  • A current utility bill, or a legible copy thereof, showing the name and address of the elector.
  • A bank statement, or a legible copy thereof, showing the name and address of the elector.
  • A government check or paycheck, or a legible copy thereof, showing the name and address of the elector.
  • A government document, or a legible copy thereof, showing the name and address of the elector.

  • Note: If you have moved within Coffee County you must notify us 30 days prior to any election.

 

  • Register to vote when you get your driver's license.
  • Register at any Coffee County Satilla Regional Library when you apply for a library card; or any time you are at a library you may pick up a blank application and mail it in yourself.

  • The last day to register for any election is 30 days prior to that election.
  • Any mail-in applications must be postmarked by 30 days prior to that election.
  • If you have moved, you must have notified us 30 days prior to any election.
  • If you are not sure if you are registered, please call or email us first. Duplicate registration costs us a lot of time!
