OUR MISSION:

The mission of the Banks County Board of Assessors and Appraisal Staff is to appraise all taxable property at 100% Fair Market Value in a fair and impartial manner and to administer the property tax laws of the State of Georgia fairly and efficiently in order to promote public confidence and compliance, while providing excellent customer service to the citizens of Banks County.

Homestead Exemption Application

Per HB 916, there is no acreage limit for applying for a Conservation Use Exemption as of May 1, 2012. For applications on 10 acres or less, there is a requirement for substantial proof of bona fide agricultural use. Additionally, 2.0 acres along with a residence shall be excluded from all Conservation Use Covenants (new or renewal) applied for after May 1, 2012.

PUBLIC NOTICE:

Notice to Banks County Property Owners and Occupants. In accordance with O.C.G.A. 48-5-264.1, please be advised that the Banks County Appraisal Staff may be visiting your property to review your parcel information concerning an appeal filed, return filed, construction of new improvement or addition, review of parcel, and/or conservation use application. The field appraiser from our office will have photo identification and will be driving a marked county vehicle. If you have any further questions, please call our office at (706) 677-6223.

Please be advised that the dates to make Property Tax Returns are from January 1 to April 1 each year. You may submit your current estimate of property value during this time to request a review of your property. THIS IS ALSO THE TIME TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR SPECIALIZED ASSESSMENTS.

Homestead Exemption Applications may be filed with our office at any time. They must be filed by April 1 to be applicable for the current tax year.

Did you know?

Banks County was created by an act of the General Assembly signed by Gov. Joseph E. Brown on Dec 11, 1858. According to that legislation, the county was to be laid out from portions of Franklin and Habersham counties on Feb. 1, 1859, with county officers elected the next month. Georgia's 129th county was named for Dr. Richard Banks, a noted Gainesville physician and surgeon who died three years earlier.

Ty Cobb was born in Banks county on December 18, 1886 at 1350 Hwy. 105 (Ty Cobb Parkway), Ty Cobb spent 24 years playing professional baseball and was the first player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
