From the Desk of Zane Spitzer Dear Property Owner, The following presentation discusses in detail your Notice of Proposed Property Taxes for your property you own in Bay County. These notices are also referred to as Truth in Millage (TRIM) Notices. By state statute, the Property Appraiser is required to mail these notices to you on behalf of the taxing authorities that set your tax rates and levy taxes on your property. This is an important document and should be read very carefully. When you receive the TRIM Notice please note the wording at the top: DO NOT PAY-THIS IS NOT A BILL. NO money is due at this time. The Tax Collector will mail your tax bills to you. Please note the statement about contacting the Property Appraiser’s Office should you have questions regarding the accuracy of your assessment or exemption entitlements. By statute, you have twenty-five (25) days from the date of the mailing of the notice to file a petition to appeal your assessment or exemption to the Value Adjustment Board. Before filing, you are encouraged to contact the appraiser’s office to discuss your concerns. Very few assessments are appealed once discussions take place and both parties have access to all the information available. We are always striving to be fair and equitable to all Bay County Citizens. We continue to work to improve our level of service, and appreciate any comments you might have that would assist us. It is an honor and privilege to serve the people of Bay County and my staff and I thank you. Sincerely, |
